Episode 122 – Billy Davies binned

Forest

It’s never dull at Nottingham Forest. Following a season full of political manoeuvring, touchline bans, arguments with photographers and media blackouts, the Reds have finally pulled the plug and sacked their controversial manager Billy Davies. It came following a run of seven games without a win, a sequence which culminated in Saturday’s humiliating 5-0 defeat at Derby, their worst defeat to the Rams in 116 years.

With Forest now struggling outside the play-off places, who will chairman Fawaz Al-Hasawi turn to next? Plus, what does this mean for Davies’ future as a manager in England? We assess the decision with Steve Wright, from the ‘Mist Rolling In’ Forest blog (he’s also written for Seat Pitch and The Two Unfortunates), plus Daniel Storey – a freelance football writer based in Nottingham, who’s written for Football365 and many others.

Meanwhile, in League Two, almost half the division are still scrapping for survival as the season enters its final stretch. Exeter City hadn’t won in front of their own fans at St James’s Park in over five months, before finally beating promotion chasing Fleetwood 3-0 on Saturday. The boys find out more about a difficult season for Paul Tisdale and his players from Simon Larkins, sports reporter for the Exeter Express and Echo, plus a regular on the ECFC Talk Podcast.

Elsewhere, there’s our reaction to Massimo Cellino failing the Football League’s Fit and Proper Person Test, plus the appointment of Gary Waddock at Oxford. There’s also a preview of a potential Championship title decider on Saturday between Burnley and Leicester, as well as this weekend’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final between Chesterfield and Peterborough at Wembley. All that plus Stephen Rathod tells us more about his club Huddersfield Town…
