Episode 16 – Cardiff on the climb

Malky Mackay

It’s another packed podcast this week as the boys draw their breath following a busy weekend up and down the Football League.

Following four wins in five, the latest a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Malky Mackay’s new look Cardiff have quietly sneaked up into fourth in the Championship. With a Carling Cup quarter final also on the horizon, we catch up with our Bluebirds’ blogger Rich Blake to find out just how Mackay is doing it.

It’s a different story entirely for Phil Brown in League One. His Preston side were spanked 5-2 by leaders Charlton at The Valley on Saturday, their sixth defeat in seven league games. With the pressure mounting on his head at Deepdale, we speak to our North End blogger Hannah Lupton.

It’s a similar story for Dagenham & Redbridge in League Two. John Still’s men were defeated by Shrewsbury on Saturday, a sixth straight loss, which leaves them realistically on the brink of a second successive relegation. Anthony Hodgson, our Daggers blogger (and writer for skysports.com) is on the line to share his concerns about the long season ahead.

There’s all that, an evacuation at the Riverside, Peter Murphy’s red mist – and Exeter against Blackpool in the Allan Johnston Paint Trophy…
